Johnson Line and the Norwegian ships-owner Abraham Odfjell in Bergen, Norway created Odfjell Johnson Chemical Tankers (JO Tankers) with nine new-build chemical tankers loading together 300.000 tons

Johnson Lines first two chemical-tankers was delivered 1980 from Kockums Shipyard and named to Johnson Chemstar and Johnson Chemsun the ship weighed 37500 tons d.w. and was equipped with two 12  - cylinder, 4 - stroke single-acting Pielstick - engine delivering 16.000 hp. In 1985 both was sold to a Johnson Line owned Panama Company.

1982 was Johnson Chemspan delivered from Ankerlökken Vaerft in Norway. She weighed 32.340 tons d.w. and was equipped with one 6 - cylinder turbo-charged single-acting 2 - stroke Burmaister &Wain delivering 13.100 hp. Johnson Chemspan was registered at Johnson Line Pte. Ltd in Singapore, she was sold 1985 to Globe Chartering Inc., Panama owned by Johnson.

1983 was Johnson Chemstream delivered from Naskovs Skibsvaerft, Denmark. She weighed 17.465 tons d.w. and was equipped with one 7 - cylinder, 2 - stroke single-acting Burmaister &Wain engine delivering 10.500 hp. Johnson Chemstream was registered at Nordstjernan Shipping Singapore Pte. Ltd.

1988 Johnson Chemspan, Johnson Chemstar and Johnson Chemsun were sold to Abraham Odfjell in Bergen, Norway.
